Bookish Brunch #4: Dragons, Anti-Intellectualism and Weekly Wrap-Up
Writing to you from the sunny island of Crete, where the beaches are stunning, the history is rich, and the food… well, let’s just say I might never leave! Cretans are famous for their hospitality, or philoxenia—which literally means “love of strangers.” It’s all about making everyone feel welcome, and here, that might even include offering you a shot of their local moonshine, tsikoudia and definitely some spinach and cheese pies.
This week’s newsletter is packed with goodies:
Are Tropes Really Anti-Intellectual? Let’s dive into the social media chatter and why I think tropes are more than just buzzwords.
Dragon Love: I stumbled upon a TikTok review of Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros that had me in stitches, and I’m sharing a dragon-worthy fantasy cover of an Ed Sheeran song along with my thoughts on Sophie Jordan’s upcoming release, A Fire in the Sky.
What I’m Loving: Get a taste of Crete with some traditional music from a popular Cretan singer that had a concert here last night, and a vegan recipe I’m dying to try once I’m back home.
Bookish News: So many new covers dropping, including two that have me absolutely fangirling—because they’re from some of my favorite authors and series!
